Campaigns - Strategic Communications

Gun Violence

On February 2, 2023, the Gainesville City Commission declared a Gun Violence Crisis.

The Office of Communications & Marketing spent the next several months developing a webpage.

A summit was planned; to create an event program, I wrote the content and advised on layout and design.

Following the summit, it took only a few days to produce the post-event report and distribute to stakeholders.

Budget Issues

To help the community better understand the coming budget reductions for Fiscal Year 2024, I created and wrote "Finance Friday."

This weekly series focused on some of the higher-visibility spending choices.

One of the priorities was to highlight creative restructuring to increase efficiency and reduce cost.

The full series of Finance Friday updates, sent to subscribers and posted online, consisted of seven individual entries to conclude budget season.

State of the City

Written for Mayor Harvey Ward and delivered on February 13, 2024.

This is an annual publication to support the State of the City event; my role is to develop the content, write the text, and work with the design team.

This is a special companion booklet produced for 2024; again, I developed the content, wrote the text, and worked with the design team.

To create an online experience, I consulted with one of the city's GIS specialists and advised on the creation of an "On the Move" story map.

Parade

When the Gainesville City Commission voted to hold a holiday parade, the Office of Communications & Marketing went to work.

An early effort was the production of a parade promo featuring two City leaders and Grand Marshal Steve Spurrier.

Within days, our team had created a parade information packet, registration form, graphics and online presence.

The parade program was printed for inclusion in sponsor gift bags and to distribute to VIPs at the parade day Dignitary Brunch.
